Digital democracy is live and well, at least in the Early Adopter program that Oppo has begun.  They distributed an email to their customers that outlined a democratic way of kicking off (or closing the doors on) their highly anticipated BDP-83 Blu-Ray player.

For $499, each of the 50 randomly selected participants can choose to purchase the player ahead of its market release, test it, and vote on whether it is a success in their eyes.  If at least 70% of the 50 participants vote positively, another 100 early adopters will be added and the results tabulated again.  After a positive review this time, it goes to market.

By March 3rd, a preliminary product spec sheet should be available on Oppo’s website.  Thus far, we know that the player features a Profile 2.0 system, and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio internal decoding.
