Vudu will now offer high definition movies that users can download to own, not just to rent. 50 titles will be offered in the first round of this venture, all from independent studios (Kino, FirstLook Studios, Magnolia Pictures and others).

The Oscar winner for Best Documentary, “Man on Wire” will be among the first group.  These download-to-own movies will also be part of the 1,400 movies that Vudu currently offers to download, if consumers prefer.  The purchased movies will cost $13.99 to $23.99, and can be stored in the Vudu box or the free online storage Vudu Vault.
