The Basics

The Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH is a 7.1 channel AV receiver that employs high-precision, sophisticated audio and video processing using a state-of-the-art MCACC environment tuning. The VSX-94TXH is built with 140 watts of power delivered seamlessly to 7 channels for deep and detailed sound. In addition, it works with the latest HD technology while upgrading older analog sources using a Faroudja DCDi Video Scaler. The VSX-94TXH also has generous analog audio and video inputs for game consoles, CD players, VCRs, and even near-obsolete components like turntables. On-board decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio makes it perfect for use with Blu-ray and HD DVD.

The VSX-94TXH provides 4 HDMI v1.3a 1080-capable inputs and 1 output to integrate it easily into your home theater system. Other bonuses included are an Ethernet port that accommodates streaming audio from a PC or Internet such as DNLA Compliant Network Music and Internet Radio.

The VSX-94TXH is even Sirius and XM satellite radio ready. USB input on the front panel and an optional iPod dock make it a flexible member of your daily entertainment routine. Furthermore, the included Home Media Gallery utilizes the Ethernet port to allow easy access to music files on your PC and control any Internet-related content sources as well.

The Upside

The Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH AV Receiver is indeed the elite in its class with its solid design and full set of commendable features. The VSX-94TXH boasts direct internal amplifiers that can reliably power loudspeakers and fill even the most cavernous of rooms. As a result, it flawlessly fills any environment with dynamic, defined sound whatever your source material and your listening preferences are.

This model’s HDMI 1.3a supports up-to-date audio formats and makes it the perfect companion to Blu-ray and other high definition components since the VSX-94TXH optimizes performance for these demanding entertainment technologies.

The Downside

Unfortunately, for all its proud features, the VSX-94TXH suffers from a hard-to-use remote control that seems to be inherent in many Pioneer brand electronics. We recommend purchasing a third-party universal remote after initial setup of this system. It will enhance (rather than detract) from enjoying the VSX-94TXH.

Apart from a badly designed remote control, the on-screen setup process and GUI are not very intuitive as well, requiring you to consult the manual often.

Conclusion

The Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH AV Receiver lives up to the “elite” in its name. In a crowded market of home theater components, the VSX-94TXH delivers a comprehensive set of features that cannot be found in comparable models in its range. Any problems with this model can be easily remedied and will not take away from all the benefits it brings. Its price tag of around $1,800 might be modest considering what the VSX-94TXH delivers.
