The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) announced that 82% of American households receiving over-the-air broadcasting have taken some steps in preparation for the DTV transition.  This research was released only one day after the House approved the bill proposing a delay in the switch by nearly four months.

This bill passed, largely supported by the argument that Americans were unprepared for the transition. The NAB stated that awareness about the transition is currently at 97%.  They released a statement indicating that this awareness is due to an “unprecedented billion dollar educational effort” on the part of member broadcasters, and thanking policymakers for their efforts in ensuring that government policy supported the transition.

The VP of the DT transition at the NAB, Jonathan Collegio, finds this education and awareness reassuring, and hopes that it compels Americans to act by applying for coupons and taking other steps to prepare their household for the DTV switch.
