At a recent to the trade only presentation, consumer electronics giant Sony displayed what consumers can expect to see in the next few months.

For the entry level home theater enthuisist on a budget, Sony has created the new DAV-S300 DVD Dream System . This 5.1 channel system features a DVD/CD player, built in Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, 5 micro sattelite speakers and a subwoofer. Instillation should be easy for beginners due to Sony utilizng a color color coded speaker connection system. Designed for smaller living spaces such as apartments or dorm rooms don’t be surprised if you see the $600 Dream System on the wish list for many starving college students this year.

Sony steps into the world of tapeless digital network recorders with the SVR-2000. Integrating TiVo technology, the SVR-2000 features a 30 gigabyte hard disc drive. This allows for up to 30 hours of program recording. This unit also features one touch dubbing to Sony brand VCRs for archival purposes.

Sony has expanded its line of WEGA TVs and now offers a 13 inch model available in 3 colors, blue, gray and white. The flatscreen Trinitron WEGA KV-13FM14 will be availble in stores this summer for about $330.

For those who are looking for a larger WEGA tv, Sony will be offering the FD Trinitron WEGA KV-36XBR400. Priced at $2,700, Sony claims this to be the ultimate in NTSC television with a picture that rivals High Defintion TV. This 36 inch WEGA comes equiped with Digital Reality Creation Multifunction circutry to enhance today’s NTSC broadcasts by displaying images as 960I or 480p, as well as 1080i/720p with an external set-top box. Like the 13 inch WEGA, the KV-36XBR400 will be available this summer.

As your CD collection grows, so does your need for a multi-capacity CD player. The Megastore 400-CD changer CDP-CX450 – 400 CD storage unit could be just the piece you are looking for. Sony’s Memo Search feature allows you to list all of your CDs by title, and with the new Artist Search feature, up to 400 artists can be listed alphabetically.
