There is no doubt that HDMI delivers the highest possible audio and video quality.  Simplicity and functionality are still in question, although it has greatly improved over the past year.  Meridian has entered the HDMI game with the unveiling of their new HDMI Audio Processor.  The HD621 is a 6-into-1 video/audio switch.

The processor separates up to eight channels of audio.  It also provides audio-only outputs to allow for connection to existing Meridian Surround Controllers.  HDMI video has always interfered with the audio, causing muting, interpolation, buzzes and hums.  This Meridian product allows for the video to be delivered to the display while the audio can be delivered separately to audio processors.

The HD621 includes Meridian’s FIFO buffering and resolution-enhancement system.  The switch also includes configurable lip-sync delay to compensate for latency.  The audio output section uses Meridian’s MMHR interface, and an RJ45 connector that carries eight channels of digital audio at 96kHz.  The switch also contains an RS-232 serial port as well as several other connectors.

The HD621 is available for a retail price of $2,995.
