Funai will now be taking over North American Blu-ray, DVD, and other audio/video operations for Philips.  This move was officially announced in April of 2008.  Funai is adept at low-cost production and expects to increase their North American sales by $332 million.

Funai has opted to pay Philips royalty payments for the use of their brand instead of an upfront payment.  Philips decision to turn over the North American division to Funai came as it is struggling due to economic conditions.  Philips also wants to focus on their higher-margin operations.

Funai's North American revenues account for 65 percent of their total sales.
