Reports used to flood in about the growing sales of flat-panel HDTVs.  Production was increasing, prices were going down somewhat, and consumers appeared to be happy.  But in past several months, more and more reports flood in about the cutting of production and closing of manufacturer plants.

Sharp is the most recent, having recently announced that they would be cutting production of LCD panels at their Japanese plant by as much as 10 percent.  Analysts predict that the slow in the economy will make the second half of 2009 the likely time for a recover in the HDTV market.

This announcement also comes hot on the heels of the recent price fixing scandal, in which named Sharp, LG, and a Chunghwa pleaded guilty and were assessed fines.
