Can't afford a home theater PC or media server with high-end HDMI video processing?  Well, now you do need to.  GrandTec has released a device that will convert video and audio from a USB port to HDMI.

The device supports up to 720p resolution. The device works with both Pcs and Macs.  The converter also allows for six individual simultaneous displays on windows and four displays on a Mac, arranged to user's specifications.  The box is USB bus powered, so no external power supply is required.

The converter box only costs $130 versus an HDMI graphics card that could cost well over $400.

You can buy a graphics card with an HDMI output for a lot less than $400. I
think the article also meant to say "don't need to", rather than "do
need to".
