With Blu-ray player prices dropping as the holiday season approaches, it is great to see new players joining the market.  Insignia is the latest Blu-ray Profile 2.0 player to come to the market.  Best Buy has listed this player at $250, and is already backordered online by one to two weeks.  However, a recent trip to Best Buy shows that they are still on the shelves.

Preliminary tests show that the player is fairly stable and quick.  One immediate drawback shown in the specifications is that lack of proper hi-res audio decoding.  Much like the very first HD DVD players, the player can only decode the first two channels in a Dolby TrueHD stream, which I would say defeats one of the major benefits of the Blu-ray format.  Stay tuned for more information at the Insignia.
