The Basics:
The LN-T5265F hails from one of Samsung’s mid-level LCD lines. This 52-inch, 1080p model offers many of the features you’ll find in the higher-end 71 Series, with one notable omission: this TV lacks Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology. The LN-T5265F is a traditional LCD that uses a CCFL backlight, which is adjustable to help you tailor light output and black level to suit your viewing conditions. It also features Samsung’s Super Clear LCD panel, a glossy screen that veers from the traditional matte-black you see with most LCDs.
This TV incorporates Samsung’s Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) processing and features three HDMI 1.3 inputs that accept 1080p/60 and 1080p/24, with one located on the side panel for easy access. The side panel also has a USB 2.0 port that can display JPEGs and play MP3s, a feature Samsung calls Wiselink. The menu includes a generous amount of picture controls, including direct access to white-balance controls and two color-space options: wide for more saturated colors and auto for more accurate colors. You also get a nice assortment of aspect ratio choices, including a Just Scan mode that displays 1080i/1080p images with no overscan.

The two 10-watt speakers are subtly incorporated into the TV’s side panels, and the audio menu includes SRS TruSurround XT audio processing. The LN-T5265F sports an attractively styled black cabinet, with rounded edges and a swiveling base.

The Upside:
For a traditional LCD, this TV is capable of very good black levels, with a nice amount of black detail to boot. The color points are quite accurate in the auto color space. HD sources look very detailed, and SD sources hold up well, too. The TV renders a generally clean picture without a lot of digital noise.

The Downside:
Out of the box, the TV’s color temperature is somewhat cool and benefits from calibration. The LN-T5265F exhibits common LCD issues, such as motion blur with fast-moving content, a limited viewing angle, and some screen uniformity issues. Samsung’s Super Clear LCD panel can improve image contrast in a bright room, but its light reflections can also be distracting in a well-lit room, especially with darker content.

The LN-T5265F is a good performer offered at a solid price. You don’t get the 120Hz technology of the 71 Series or the LED backlighting of the 81 Series, but you save some money and still get a versatile performer that boasts an attractive HD image and a nice complement of features.
