A virtual nobody on the PGA tour, Rich Beem, wins the PGA Championship yesterday despite a vicious 4 birdie finish by Tiger Woods. How does a newbie keep from, as Beem said in an interview, “puking” during the last few holes on Sunday? That is easy, Beem was pressure tested when selling cell phones and car audio (according to ESPN) at Magnolia, a prominent AV chain.

Making birdies and eagles on the back nine at a major might seem simple as compared to overcoming some schmoe claims of a preamp sounding too “grainy.” Tiger Woods’ attack down the stretch is nothing as compared to having to convince some guy’s wife that he is allowed to buy a pair of big MartinLogans for their shabby chic living room.

If Phil Mickelson can’t be the winner at a major, it might as well be an ex-stereo salesman. It gives hope to all of us hackers (ex-stereo salesmen and 7 handicaps) that anything is possible when you put your experience on the retail floor into your endeavors.
