The new Athena Technologies Audition series from API consists of five magnetically shielded full-range models plus the new AS-P400 powered subwoofer priced at $399. Starting at $149 per pair, there are two bookshelf models, two floor-standing speakers, and a timbre matched center channel.
With a retail price of $599 per pair, the top-of-the-line AS-F2 floor-standing speakers is front-vented and combines a 1 inch Teteron dome tweeter with two 8inch injection molded polypropylene woofers. All of the drivers are in-house API designs and are mounted in a solidly braced MDF cabinet faced with a simple and stylish metal-look baffle. API touts the new Audition series as having neutral spectral balance and uncolored performance. The reported response of the AS-F2 is 35Hz-20kHz +/- 3dB with 93 dB "in-room" efficiency. Recommended amplifier power is up to 250 watts-per-channel. |
