Celebrity Skin,
Geffen Records
| Performance 3.5 | Sound 5 |

So rarely do we here at The Audio Revolution pan an album. Frankly, there just isn't enough room, and as your mother once told us, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." Now, why we were talking to your mother in the first place is another story altogether. Unfortunately, sometimes, all that damn media hype works and you buy a bad album.

This is that bad album. 'Celebrity Skin'--the album not the magazine who is suing the band for using its name--is awful and there's simply no other way to put it. On this latest release Courtney Love, who's never known for profound and intelligent lyrics, demonstrates a continued prowess for talking loud and saying next to nothing. Of course, this is normally a prerequisite in most pop music, only here it just becomes another reason not to buy this record. Yes, Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins wrote some of the music on this album, but don't be confused and swayed by the press, this album is horrible.

What makes it even more so--other than the music which fathers a feeling of remarkable boredom--is that most of the recordings are just as flat and uninspired as the music. This, as much as anything, is probably the reason we have to shell this album so mercilessly. With all of today's recording, mastering, and mixing capabilities one would think you could do some interesting things on a big-budget rock record. Of course, we have occasionally been accused of thinking too much, which could be another reason we dislike this record seeing as that we obviously aren't its target audience.
