Perhaps the fact that I spent most of my adolescence during the mid-to-late 1980's in New Jersey has skewed my opinion of this 'Best Of Skid Row' record. It seems like each song is a trip back to a place in time where big hair, too much make up, and frequently worn Spandex made you cool. Ahhh . . . the memories.
'40 Seasons' kicks off with the 80's anthem "Youth Gone Wild" and powers right on to the MTV favorite "18 and Life." Cut 4, "I Remember You" proves that Skid Row had mastered the cheese ballad genre and cut 7, "Monkey Business," is a personal favorite in that shows off Skid Row's bluesy roots with a full force metal attack.
You
have to listen to '40 Seasons: The Best Of Skid Row' with a sense of
humor. Their music still rocks, but seems somewhat out of place in a
musical era where "women with angst" rule the airwaves. '40 Seasons' is
well recorded and filled with hits. If you loved it then, you'll love
it all over again.
