Just What You Want,
Nightbird/MCA Records
| Performance 7.5 | Sound 8 |

The unwritten rule in R&B seems to say that selling a new artist is sort of like making spaghetti. Every so often, throw one of them against the wall and when one sticks, go with it. Sadly, not only does this tend to waste a number of artists, it cheapens the whole process. In recent years R&B artists have been turned out faster than they've been turned in leaving everyone involved latching on to anything remotely stable in an effort to stop the room from spinning. What is truly disappointing about this is that while so many of these artists can be made or broken by Puff Daddy and the bastardization of a mid-80's hit, there are a number of truly talented people who will simply fade away.

Hopefully this will not be the case with Eboni Foster, a young woman who has a voice and a passion that it will be pleasure to watch as the years pass. Impressive from start to finish 'Just What You Want' is a concise forty minutes which shies away from over-produced hype and squarely hits Foster's stated marks of reflecting "something about me too" and revealing a spectrum of emotions. From its ballads to its sultry grooves this disc is an impressive introduction to an impressive talent who deserves your ear for more than just the moment.
