I hasten to call the resurgence of swing a fad based on the fact that for three generations the music of swing has liberated the libidos of American youth. Brian Setzer, the former lead singer of the 80's rock-a-billy band The Stray Cats, has assembled a band that truly smokes to perform many of the classics of swing.

'The Dirty Boogie''s lineup combines memorable melodies with well-placed original songs. As the single, Setzer covers the swing anthem "Jump Jive An' Wail" with a tremendous instrumentation that features a smokin' Setzer guitar solo and fabulous work by the horn section. The two original cuts that kick off the record "This Cat's On A Hot Tin Roof" and "The Dirty Boogie" are excellent, however the closer on the record is The Setzer Orchestra's version of The Stray Cat's theme "Rock This Town."

The Dirty Boogie sonically will contend as one of, if not the best sounding CD of 1998. It is dynamic, smooth and well layered. Most importantly the songs rock which makes for the perfect demo CD. If you buy only one swing CD, 'The Dirty Boogie' should be it.
