Underworld
is one of those bands that are tough to categorize. They have their own
following and don’t seem exceptionally interested in shortening their
songs for radio play. On this album alone seven out of the eleven songs
are over six minutes long, and two of those top the nine minute mark.
Nevertheless, ‘Fish’ could easily be a landmark in the Ambient realm,
it has all the undertones of the genre but subtly infuses them with a
certain soul not normally so prevalent in such albums.
We could remark about how good each individual song is on this album,
or we could simply say that there is hardly a low point. Each song is
strong and, to the credit of the disc’s producer, flows effortlessly
into the next. We also have no quibble with the technical aspects of
this recording leaving us little more to say than, give this album a
listen and take it home with you. You should not be disappointed.
