Camelot Technology To Ship Roundtable Mark II DVD Player With 24/192 Audio Upconversion

By the end of October 2001, Camelot Technology will start shipping a new Mark II version of their popular Roundtable DVD-Video player which will retail for $4,995. The new player includes internal upconversion of audio from CDs and specially coded music oriented DVD-V discs from 16 bit 44.1 kHz to 24 bit 192 kHz.

While the Mark I player will remain in the product line priced at $3,995, any current units can be upgraded to Mark II status at the Camelot factory, direct for $995.

The Mark II modifications add even more power to the Roundtable’s most critically acclaimed feature – its sound. According to Camelot, the feedback they had received from their clients pointed to their interest in getting even more performance from traditional CDs which make up the majority of the software Camelot clients owned. With this in mind, Camelot signed up to be the first AV company to use a chip set and upconversion technology from a company called Anagram Technologies based in Switzerland. This system internally takes the 16 bit 44.1 kHz information from a CD and upconverts it to 24 bit 192 kHz.

The trick is that the Anagram system uses the I2S transmission system for digital information which can handle the 192 kHz frequency rate. The Anagram system also comes complete with D to A converters than can accept an unconverted 24 bit 192 kHz word.

The Roundtable Mark I and Mark II both come equipped with an internal video processor based on the iScan Pro line doubler and have been praised for their video quality. It is important to note that with the Anagram updates to the Mark II version of the Roundtable, HDCD functionality is lost unlike on the Mark I version.
