Marilyn Manson made their way into the hearts of loud music lovers with their catchy, death rock cover of the Euryhmic's "Sweet Dreams" which almost unbelievably became a radio hit all over again. Antichrist Superstar teams up Marilyn Manson with 9 Inch Nails' Trent Resnor who gives this record a violently industrial feel.

Even though rock and roll is dead, at least on the radio in LA, Marilyn Manson fill in a niche for very pissed off white males who are trying to rebel against their parents or society or somehting. The best song on the record is "The Beautiful People". Other songs of note include "Irresponsible Hate Anthem" which poses the question of whether or not Marilyn Manson was born with enough middle fingers. I frequently wonder about that while stuck in traffic on the 405 freeway.

Sonically the record is loud, bright and kind of thin. To me Marilyn Manson is cool but come up short in comparison to White Zombie who have a bit more groove and a sense of humor to their death rock. I could be wrong but Marilyn Manson seems to take themselves a little bit too seriously.
