In 35 years B&W has grown to be one of the most respected and highest grossing loudspeaker manufacturer in all of high-end audio/video. To celebrate their 35th birthday, B&W announced the pending release of their flagship $20,000 per pair Signature 800 loudspeakers.
With a much more slim footprint that B&W's famous 801 loudspeakers, the signature 800 is designed for modern and elegant living environments. The new Signature 800 was able to get thinner by using two 10 inch drivers for low frequency performance as opposed to a 15 inch driver as found in the 801's. The top of the speaker is rounded with a top mounted tweeter as can be seen on many of the newer speakers in the B&W lineup. With new high resolution audio formats in mind B&W has designed a new tweeter that can reach unprecedented heights of 50 kHz, well above the human hearing range. It will be interesting to see how the addition of high frequency harmonics effect the realism of the Signature 800's on DVD-Audio and SACD discs. The Signature 800 will be priced at $20,000 per pair The Signature HTM Center will be priced at $3,000 The Signature SCM Surrounds will be priced at $3,000 per pair Availability July 2001. |
