"True folk" best describes the style of this extremely talented and clever songwriter. Good folk music is often a story of the musician’s travels. This in itself is often not enough to make the music work. In this case, the wit and clever vocals of Chuck Brodsky make him one of the top talents in his field. The 38-year-old Brodsky, originally from the Philadelphia area, started playing and singing at about the time that he learned to walk. After a couple of successful shows as a part-time musician, Brodsky decided to tackle his musical career full-time in 1992. He signed with Red House Records in 1996 and recently released his second recording, ‘Radio.’ Brodsky lists his influences as Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, and Little Feat. The music on ‘Radio’ flows nicely with solid guitar playing and vocals, which are clever and performed with great soul.

The song "Bad Whiskey" has a supporting cast of banjo and guitar, which give the music a delightful edge. "Blow Em Away" is among my favorite songs on the disc. With its blues/rock influences, it tells a playful tale of road rage, describing what you often want to do when you encounter bullies on the road. This is one of those recordings that you find yourself liking more and more every time you listen to it.

The recording quality is good -- in fact, real good. The instruments in this HDCD encoded disc are dynamic, natural and for the most part set back nicely. The only flaw in this otherwise awesome recording is that it can sometimes sound a bit fat, with a slightly less than natural bloom. This is nitpicking at a very appealing album that will satisfy nearly all recording connoisseurs. My reaction after listening to this recording for the first time: "Cool, another good disc recorded well."
