Audio, the first ever record from the off Broadway performers, Blue Man Group is a wake up call for you and your music playback system. Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton and Chris Wink make up this uncommon ensemble which uses modern, homemade percussion instruments to paint an modern aural abstract master piece.

The closest analogy to Blue Man Group musically is Jan Hammer back from the days of Miami Vice. The songs are up tempo and highlight, of course, the cutting edge percussive instrumentation along with an edgy sounding guitar and bass. Audio is not a live performance recording of one of Blue Man Group’s off-Broadway shows. Blue Man Group composed Audio to take advantage of the musical possibilities that the limited physical size of their shows wouldn’t allow. Man, did it pay off.

Don’t try to compare Blue Man Group’s instruments to anything you’ve ever heard or seen before. They are truly unique. Some of the most trick instruments include Air Poles, the Tubulum, the PVC Instrument and the Shaker Gong. Air Poles are a variety of fiberglass poles that can be waved around to make different "Swoosh" sounds. The PVC Instrument is made of Polyvinyl Chloride pipes and is struck with closed cell foam rubber panels. The tone of the instruments depends on where you hit it and how long that pipe is. The Shaker Gong is a metal encased matrix of ball bearings that is suspended from tightly cased surgical tubing. The effect is a sustained metallic shaking sound,

The album itself, Audio, is a rockin’ acid trip come true for your ears and your music playback system. It has more neat tricks for you to listen to than anything I have ever heard before. I had a hard time picking out any specific tracks I liked best in that much a great Pink Floyd record, you want to go through the whole experience of dimming the light and taking off to another dimension. Burn your copy of Jazz At The Pawn shop, Audio is the new standard. You are going to freak when you hear it and you won’t be able to take it out of your CD player. Audio is a true Audio Revolution. Every reader must own this CD!
