Snell Acoustics, long known for its work with THX loudspeakers, has introduced a new flagship speaker called the Type XA Reference. Priced between $25,000 and $30,000 per pair, the six-foot, one-inch XA Reference speakers use a completely new design, improving on their predecessors, the critically acclaimed Type A Reference.
Snell used a sophisticated computer modeling system to design the XA Reference, with special attention focused on the speaker driver array. The increase in physical size of the XA Reference makes the use of Snell’s 18-inch subwoofer optional, although 5.1 music and home theater systems will benefit from the earth-shaking low frequencies coming from the sub. The XA Reference is a seven-driver, five-element expanding array speaker system. The design includes five-inch midrange drivers that are positioned above and below a one-inch, titanium dome tweeter, with a pair of eight-inch woofers mounted outside each midrange. The XA Reference is expecting to ship in late spring 2001. Snell Acoustics 143 Essex Street Haverhill, MA 08832 978.373.6114 tel. 978.373.6172 fax |
