Marantz Upgrades Its DVD Lineup

Marantz is updating its DVD lineup with a new flagship DVD player, the DV9600 ($2,099) and another two new models, the DV6600 ($649) and DV4600 ($299). As the line’s flagship, the DV9600 is loaded with features. An HDMI interface ensures digital video signals are fed directly to the display without quality loss and its video-scaling circuitry lets users upsample to 720p, 1080i or 1080p high-definition formats.

The company claims the DV9600’s audio reproduction is as impressive as its video performance. The player features six-channel audio circuits, two IEEE 1394 outputs for multi-channel audio, 192 kHz, 24-bit D/A converters and Marantz’s High-Definition Amplifier Module 2 Super Audio for lifelike reproduction of source material. Users get full bass management including delay for DVD, DVD-Audio, and SACD discs as well as built in Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound decoding. Dolby Headphone technology also lets users enjoy the effects of a 5.1 soundtrack through any set of headphones.

Connectivity options abound with seven video outputs (including S-Video, composite and previously mentioned HDMI), digital two-channel and multi-channel analog audio outputs while a RS-232 connector allows for two-way integrated system control. Although it’s a lower-end model, the DV6600 also features an HDMI interface as well as two-channel and multi-channel DVD-Audio and SACD capability. As an entry-level player, the DV4600 includes component, S-Video and composite outputs and premium audio components such as 192kHz, 24-bit audio D/A converters to match its video performance.
