Denon’s DVD lineup has been retooled with two new players – the universal DVD-1920 ($369) and budget-level DVD-1720 ($149). The DVD-1920 has a good number of features for its price point, it supports SACD and DVD-Audio playback and also uses a Faroudja FLI2301 DCDi chipset for image enhancement. The universal player’s HDMI 1.1 interface also ensures that any digital video signal is fed directly to the display without any loss in quality.

The DVD-1720 shares some of the features of the DVD-1920 like a 10-bit, 54Mhz video D/A converter and Burr Brown Audio digital-to-analog converters. Both models have similar Picture Mode adjustments including 4:3 aspect ratio squeeze and zoom for 480p output, and are capable of playing Windows Media Audio. Like all Denon universal players they are also compatible with Kodak and Fuji Picture CDs since they have JPEG photo viewers. Although the 1720 is not HDMI capable it does have a number of standard outputs including composite, S-Video, component, coaxial and optical digital outputs.
