Sony has unveiled a new 1920 x 1080p high-definition front projector based on its own Silicon X-tal Reflective Display technology with a reported contrast ratio of up to 15,000:1. The VPL-VW100 uses three SXRD chips (a separate one for red, green and blue color reproduction) to deliver over six million native pixels.

The new projector borrows some of its technology from its higher-end counterpart, the QUALIA 004 projector. It features a 400 watt pure xenon lamp that is supposed to approximate sun light to reproduce colors close to the natural spectrum. The Advanced Iris works with the three 0.61 SXRD chips to produce an overall contrast ratio that is supposed to reach up to 15,000:1 when the auto Iris mode is on. The projector’s cooling structure keeps fan noise at a low 22dB. Other features include a 1.8x powered lens zoom, powered focus and a lens shift that allows users to adjust either the vertical or horizontal location of the image. A 1080p projector should have HDMI inputs to ensure the best connection and Sony provides that option alongside DVI-D, RGB and component video inputs.

The $10,000 projector will be available in November.
