Meridian has introduced a new active analog in-wall loudspeaker, the M420, which will be showcased at the CEDIA Expo in September. The M420 is based on the company’s DSP420 digital in-wall speaker released in 2003 and includes the same dual 127mm long-throw bass drivers and a soft-domed 25mm tweeter with protective grille.

The loudspeaker features separate internal amplification for high and low frequency bands (at 65 and 85 Watts respectively). The front baffle and acoustic back box made from aluminum offer low resonance at low frequencies and high frequency damping also ensures low cabinet coloration and mid-range transparency. The amplifiers connect directly to the bass drivers, two parallel five-inch woofers with cast alloy chassis, carbon fiber cones and large shielded magnets. An acoustically transparent grille protects the front baffle and bass drivers from harm while its powder finish can be painted to blend in with the surroundings.

Other features include a new rough-in back-box designed for either analogue or digital and suited for wall or ceiling mounting. Power is wired into the box via a terminal block while and IEC connector supplies power to the speaker unit. Digital inputs can be wired into terminal blocks or attached via BNC connectors while a DSUB cable connects the loudspeaker unit to back-box inputs. XLR connectors are used for analogue. The M420 is available at a suggested retail price of $2,185 per speaker.
