Walmart.com is now offering its own download service that charges 88 cents per song. The service does not charge a monthly fee and there is no subscription charge. It offers a variety of songs and full album downloads that can be found only on walmart.com in their ‘Walmart Exclusives” section. This month their exclusives include songs from the finalists of Oprah Winfrey’s Pop Star Challenge, the acoustic version of the 3 Doors Down song “Here Without You” and the international radio version of the Black Eyed Peas newest release “Hey Mama.”

Walmart is known for selling edited albums inside their stores, and their download service is no different. Songs available on the service that are marked “edited” have been recorded without explicit lyrics. Some edited songs featured on the site include Nelly’s hit “Hot in Herre”, Blink-182’s “I Miss You” and 50 Cent’s “In Da Club" and “P.I.M.P.”

Unedited versions are not available through walmart.com. Edited music may be a plus for concerned parents, but it also may be a large factor in why users turn to other services for their music downloads.

Music downloaded from Walmart.com is not compatible with Macintosh or Linux operating systems making the site exclusive to PC users. The website offers a free downloadable version of Windows Media Player 9 to make the downloading process easy for first time downloaders.
