TiVo is expanding the possibilities of digital video recording (DVR) technology with the announcement of new features that allow TiVo customers to download movies and music from the Internet, which would then be saved to the TiVo's hard drive.

Currently, TiVo lets customers watch broadcast, cable or satellite programs at any time, but the new technology will allow customers to mix downloaded music and movies with television programs.

The internet-based features are not currently available, but other new TiVo features coming soon include online scheduling, digital music, digital photos and multi-room viewing, which turns the TiVo into a home network. The WishList feature acts like a search engine and allows the user to find information from programs that will be displayed on their television. The Season Pass feature automatically records every episode of a season-based show, chosen by the user. Online scheduling allows the user to program TiVo from the internet. Finally, Home Media features allows the user to share digital photos, digital music. With two or more TiVo boxes, this makes multi-room viewing a possibility.

TiVo's service currently costs $12.95 a month or a one-time fee of $299.
