Velvet
Revlover singer and former Stone Temple Pilots frontman, Scott Weiland,
was sentenced to 6 months in a live-in drug treatment center last week.
He also received three years of probation and mandatory drug testing
stemming from D.U.I. charges he received last October on his 36th
birthday.
Weiland is no stranger to trouble regarding drug charges. In May 2003, just five days after he had signed the papers to become an official member of Velvet Revolver, he was arrested for possession of heroine and cocaine. He received three years of probation for those charges. It is reported that he will be able to serve his two different probabtion sentences concurrently.
Reportedly, Weiland has cleaned up his act. In a recent Rolling Stone interview he acknowledged that he had a "horrendous heroin problem", but led readers to believe he was no longer dealing with addiction. He has also reconciled with is wife who previously filed for divorce due to his drug problems.
Weiland undoubtedly has gotten support from his band mates, former Guns n’ Roses bad boys Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Slash, who have all been through days of debauchery and excess and have miraculously lived to tell the tales.
Velvet Revolver’s debut CD, Contraband, has been selling very well and remains on Billboard’s Top 100, coming in at number 14 this week. The band is slated to begin a European tour in August.
