Last night, at a concert for the band Damageplan, a twenty-five year old man rushed the stage and opened fire, killing guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott and three others at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. Nathan Gale of Marysville, dressed in a hooded sweatshirt and a Columbus Blue Jackets hockey jersey fired several shots at Abbott and then turned, shooting towards the audience as security rushed him in an attempt to stop him.

Police officer James Niggemeyer of the Columbus police was called in to the nightclub. Niggemeyer entered the club via a back entrance and was able to shoot and kill Gale who had taken a hostage. Authorities are looking for a motive for Gale’s actions; however, no connection between Gale and the band has been found as of yet.

The identities of two of the three other deceased have been released. Nathan Bray, 23, was an audience member and Erin Halk, 29, was also killed. There has been no official announcement if Halk was a concertgoer or an employee. The identity of the fourth deceased person has not been announced and some are speculating it could be another member of Damageplan.

Several people in the club were injured as well and one is in critical condition. Two others were treated at the scene and one person is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Several witnesses stated that they thought the event was an elaborate staged event, however the seriousness of the event became quite apparent when the gunman began firing towards the audience. Police say the club has a history of violence including a recent shooting in the parking lot.

Abbot, 38, and his older brother Vinnie Paul Abbot, 40, were founding members of the thrash metal band Pantera that had recently disbanded.
