AVRev.com’s
year-end awards are, year in and year out, a popular feature with both
our growing group of readers as well as the manufacturers who build the
AV gear we drool over. For the past few years we have given AVRev.com
Top 100 awards to the best equipment that we have reviewed and that is
still currently available. It was inspired by the list that Maxim
Magazine does with their 100 Most Beautiful People, yet during a recent
discussion between myself, senior editor Bryan Southard and managing
editor Andrew Robinson – we decided there might be a better way to give
awards. On the Maxim list its unlikely (but not impossible) that
whoever wins no.
77 would get into a nasty cat fight with the no. 44 winner. Being on the list should be compliment enough but in the AV industry we aren’t comparing beautiful people as much as we are comparing a pretty vast variety of equipment. What makes the no. 58 ranked plasma better than a no. 48 ranked AV preamp. Needless to say, it was the cause for some phone calls from publicists and industry executives. Introducing AVRev.com ‘Gear We Love’ Awards and AVR Hall of Fame On December 1, 2006 AVRev.com will release its list of the best home theater gear in the world. To be a 2006 award winner you have to have been reviewed by AVRev.com and selected by our editorial committee. There are likely to be fewer winners in 2006 and each component can only win in one year. In a new category there will be a new list of Hall of Fame inductees. This is for the ultra-upper-crust equipment that is so good, so great of a value that we feel the world needs to hear all about it. Gear in the AVRev.com Hall of Fame is to be current gear. Award winners can be retired and remain on the list in years to come as new products replace them. Be sure to check in with AVRev.com for the winners to see how much of your system made the list and/or if you should be headed to the store to start your holiday shopping with a few presents for yourself. |
