Denon’s new AVR-5800 will be the first A/V receiver to offer the new DTS-ES Extended Surround(TM) digital entertainment audio standard. The unit decodes both Discrete 6.1 as well as DTS-ES Matrix 6.1. This new receiver from Denon also features THX Surround EX and DTS Neo:6 Surround Sound decoding.
The new DTS-ES discrete decoding system adds a discrete surround back channel to the traditional 5.1-channel loudspeaker configuration, enabling more faithful reproduction of the original multi-channel theatrical mix. When a 6.1-channel DTS-ES Discrete source is played, the AVR-5800 automatically detects the signal and plays in 6.1 discrete mode. THX Surround EX processing provides an additional surround back channel when decoding Surround EX-encoded sources, to create a 6.1-channel soundfield. The DTS Neo:6 matrix surround function simulates up to 6.1 channels of surround sound audio from stereo program material, and can be used with any two-channel digital or analog stereo audio source. Other features of Denon’s flagship receiver include 24-bit/192kHz D/A conversion and a seven-channel amplifier section. The AVR-5800 will begin shipping August 2000 with a suggested retail price of $3,800. |
