On Tuesday, November 20th, XM Satellite Radio, the first nationwide satellite radio service, will broadcast the world premieres of a previously unreleased 1963 performance of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr., "The Rat Pack Live at the Sands;" and the first official collection of 18 of the Rat Pack's signature recordings from 1952-64 on one album -- both from Capitol Records.
Broadcasts of well known and rare material like this Rat Pack performance shows XM is dedicated to content while competing with traditional broadcast radio, a media far more dedicated to commercials than entertainment.
"These premieres represent an important era in music history," said XM Chief Programming Officer Lee Abrams. "To air them in their complete form gives a grand tribute to these icons of American music."
XM will air both premieres on "Frank's Place," XM's commercial-free standards channel (XM Channel 73) beginning at 9 p.m. Eastern Tuesday. XM will air encore presentations of "The Rat Pack Live at the Sands" at 12 Midnight and 7 p.m. Wednesday; 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday; and 9 a.m., 1 and 5 p.m. Friday (all times Eastern). "Frank's Place," named for Frank Sinatra, is a celebration of "The Chairman of the Board" and his contemporaries. Also on Nov. 20, Capitol will release both recordings to retail stores.
The "Sands" recording was made at the famed Las Vegas hotel's Copa Room on September 7, 1963.
