Sirius
Satellite Radio has announced an agreement with BBC Radio to broadcast
their influential Radio 1 channel. The move comes as XM and Sirius both
make creative moves to add niche programming designed to add value to
their subscription based radio business models.
According to Sirius, Radio 1 will be broadcast on a time shift, allowing Americans to listen to the programming as it was originally planned, with Chris Moyle’s breakfast show airing in the morning. The channel features a weekly audience of 12 million listeners and has been very influential in its coverage of British artists and music scene for decades. Radio 1 adds an international flare to the growing pop-rock line up on Sirius later this summer. |
