Warner is doing something about it. They're raising the price of their licensing fees for both physical and streaming content to Netflix and Redbox. “The current [license] terms are not commensurate to the value of our films,” says Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes. “The value should be considerably higher than what we are getting now.”
In addition to the increase of fees to these low cost services, Warner is introducing premium video on demand, which will let consumers rent movies just 60 days after their theatrical run. There's also a big push towards media ownership thanks to the new digital rights management system known as Ultraviolet.
