Verizon Wants to Pay for Cable Channels Based on Viewing Time  Print E-mail
Home Theater News What Is On In HD News

Verizon has a new plan in the works that would reduce the cost of cable channels for them, and hopefully for us too.  The company is in talks to pay for channels based on viewing time, instead of in blocks like they do currently.

The reason we're charged in bundles of channels instead of by what we want to watch is essentially because that's what our cable providers have to pay. Verizon hopes to change the landscape by only paying for content that people actually watch, paying more for popular channels and less for those that go unnoticed.  By doing this, they should be able to pass the savings on, or at least find a different way of charging. Perhaps a la carte programming will finally make its way to the consumer.
