Some companies really get digital distribution.  Netflix for example.  They know that some consumers are willing to sacrifice quality of picture and sound for an inexpensive and convenient way to view content.  Kingston on the other hand, seems to be missing something. Combining the inconvenience of physical media with the low quality video of streaming media, Kingston and Paramount have teamed up to deliver Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on a USB drive.

For $30, customers can get a 4GB USB drive with the movie right on it.  Kingston states that customers only need to connect the USB drive to a computer and the movie will play.  The details are a bit of a mystery on this one. Kingston hasn’t said what format the file will be in, nor have they elaborated at all on what kind of DRM is included – and there’s almost certainly going to be DRM.  They also leave the file size and video quality a mystery.  Of course, since the entire film is stored on a 4GB flash drive, likely with room to spare, we’re not expecting Blu-ray quality.

The point of this development is a bit of a mystery, as judging from current Amazon prices, it’s actually cheaper to pick up a 4GB flash drive and the DVD separately.

I'd love to know more about this. $30 is a hefty price, and I'm curious if you
hate the film, can you delete it and just use the 4 gig?
