MGM HD finalizes a deal that will bring their HD-only service to TIme Warner Cable. This is the third deal made by MGM HD in the past week - having made deals with Comcast and Dish Network last Monday. These three deals, in addition to the original deal with DirecTV, brings MGM HD to all the major players.
MGM HD launched in October 2007 via DirecTV. Another deal with Verizon FIOS is expected to be done later this year. MGM HD offers 5 HD channel services and is usually included in an HD-tier package from the cable and satellite providers. The new HD service offers a back catalog of 4,100 films all broadcast in 1080i HD - a rarity in HD movie service. Comcast is a 20 percent owner in MGM and will offer MGM HD via both their linear service and video-on-demand. MGM's move into the HD market will help to push other distributators to start HD networks of their own. Quality content in high-definition is still sorely lacking in today's market. But with five new 24/7 HD movie channels, movie aficionados will have more quality movie chocies. |
