First in July is Journey To The Center Of The Earth (parts one and two premiere July 14 and July 15 at 8PM ET/5PM PT respectively) in which viewers venture into the pages of Jules Verne’s classic adventure book and follow the evolution of modern scientific theories. Also broadcasting in July is the second episode of the three part special Wild Nights – programs developed specifically for HD. Wild Nights: A Night In The Savannah premieres on Monday, July 7 at 8PM ET/5PM PT. On Monday, July 21, Secrets Of Hawaii’s National Parks premieres at 8PM ET/5PM PT. Discovery HD Theater premieres the pilot of Hollywood Spotlight, a monthly 30-minute program produced in high definition featuring some of the month’s movie trailers. Hosted by Erin Carmen, a popular Washington, D.C. disc jockey (Z104), the series launches with trailers including “How To Deal,” “Seabisquit” and “Hulk.” August and September shows will include trailers from such the up coming fils “Jeepers Creepers, “Matchstick Man,” “Out of Time,” “Good Boy!” and “Second Hand Lions.”
August and September premiere hours include new, high definition episodes of Trading Spaces and The Jeff Corwin Experience. Also headlining this summer is the final episode of the Wild Nights series, Wild Nights: A Night In The Jungle premieres on Monday, August 18 at 8PM ET/5PM PT.
Discovery HD Theater will also premiere Screening Room in August, a new 30-minute, monthly program that highlights upcoming high definition programming specific to Discovery HD Theater. The network’s general manager, Clint Stinchcomb, will be the on-air host –providing an inside look at new programming, happenings behind the scenes, and HDTV in general.
Also new are more details about the previously announced Atlas HD series, a $65 million investment over the next five years for 30 two-hour high definition documentary specials profiling the great destinations and countries of the world. These programs will be signature Discovery HD Theater productions, combining aerial photography and computer graphic imagery to take viewers to points in history with the visual acuity of high definition television. The first stop is India, where viewers will take Ghandi’s famous march to the sea and walk through the second Taj Mahal that was designed but never built. Hosted by six adventurers, the first Atlas HD special on India is in production now with principal photography beginning in August, and premieres late in 2004.
