The 2003 NBA All-Star Game will be broadcast in HDTV as a joint production of TNT and NBA TV, this is the first time the NBA All-Star game will be shown in HDTV. The weekend telecasts will be available on DIRECTV channel 198 at no charge and will begin Saturday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. (ET) with the NBA All-Star Saturday Night activities presented by America Online. Events include: Jeep All-Star Hoop It Up, 1-800-CALL-ATT Shootout three-point competition, 989 Sports Skills Challenge, and the Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk.
The 2003 NBA All-Star Game Coverage begins Sunday, Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. (ET) with the NBA Opening Ceremony. "This first-of-its-kind telecast is a great leap for HDTV, TNT and NBA TV, as well as an exciting viewing experience for our HD-equipped DIRECTV customers," said Stephanie Campbell, senior vice president, Programming, DIRECTV Inc., "Through our ability to provide nationwide coverage for HDTV programming, DIRECTV's HDTV viewers everywhere can take a court-side seat at the NBA's showcase event."
The telecasts will be available for customers who have an HDTV set with a built-in DIRECTV Receiver or a DIRECTV-enabled high-definition set-top receiver, and a single 18 x 20 or 18 x 24 inch multi-satellite dish with three LNBs.
