An increasingly commonplace addition to home theater components, the Vudu streaming service provides a pretty good range of movies, many in high definition. One of the prime issues though is separating themselves from the crowd. Thanks to the recent addition of Criterion Collection films, Vudu has the opportunity to do that. Known for their unparalleled DVD releases, Criterion picks only the best films (and Armageddon) to enhance with their special treatment.
The problem inherent in making a Criterion Collection video available on demand is that, aside from the film itself, the Criterion experience just isn’t there. Special features are key with a Criterion Collection DVD, from features on the disc to the packaging and insert material. Criterion does offer online rentals at $5 each, while the Vudu price for standard definition is $2.99. A quick browse of the Vudu service didn’t reveal any high definition Criterion Collection videos at this time.
