Wireless HDMI is a concept that has such potential, but just hasn’t hit the mainstream market like it seems like it should have. There are surprisingly few options available for the consumer looking to go wireless with their video setup. Philips is among the relatively small amount companies throwing their hats into the ring by offering the new SWW1800/27 HDTV Wireless Link.
The Wireless Link promises to send a 1080p/24 HD signal up to 75 feet without signal loss or degradation, and allows the connection of up to four AV devices. Philips states that their wireless HDMI solution has plug and play functionality right out of the box. Simply attach up to four devices – two HDMI and two component – to the transmitter, attach the receiver box to your a/v receiver or television and you’re good to go. The Philips Wireless HDTV Link isn’t cheap, it retails for $799 which is just a little more than Gefen’s WHDMI offering currently sells for. Philips has not stated what kind of audio signals are able to be carried, but if it is capable of 5.1 channel audio as Gefen’s is, the Philips may be a bit of an upgrade. |
