Faroudja, Inc, the AV industry’s leader in high performance video processing technologies, recently announced the successful resolution of a patent lawsuit with DWIN electroincs. Faroudja had alleged that DWIN Electronics, Inc.’s home theater line multiplier products infringed a patent held by Faroudja and a patent licensed exclusively to Faroudja for the relevant field of use. DWIN and Faroudja mutually agreed to maintain the specific technical and financial terms of the settlment in confidence.
The patents included in the settlement relate to detecting the 3:2 pulldown sequence of film-originated video and deinterlacing techniques used to improve the picture quality of high resolution and large screen video displays. These techniques are critical for displaying quality video with progressive scan display devices such as digital TVs, digital projectors, CRT projectors, flat panel displays and computer monitors.
The impact that the settlement will have on customers of both Faroudja and Dwin remains to be seen. When asked for comment, a representatve at Dwin electroics told AudioRevolution.com that the settlement in no way affects Dwin’s current line of products.
