Datacolor is offering a software upgrade for their Spyder3TV calibration system. While most discs help you to calibrate the contrast, tint, etc., Spyder3TV is a colorimeter. Color accuracy is a problem that plagues 100% of all TV monitors. While most of us fuss over the contrast and color setting available, Datacolor presents a true solution for calibrating those colors. The software is available as either a software disc or a download that is burnable to a recordable disc.
The system includes a software disc, test patterns and a quick start guide. The price for this at retail stores runs about $80. The kit is also available as a download for about $20 less. TVs are generally shipped with boosted colors to compensate for a ambient light in a typical consumer's home. This shortens the lifespan of your TV as well as provides false images. Every connected device and cable used makes a difference in the color transfer. The Datacolor software computes various factors, including ambient light measurements. The system requires a special calibration monitor, which can be purchased at retail locations. The software upgrade is only available to Spyder3Pro and Spyder3Elite customers. In order for calibration to work, you must have a PC computer and DVD player located near the TV for which calibration is desired. |
