Faroudja has just announced a new, all-inclusive Faroudja Digital Projector (FDP) Package called the FDP. The FDP Package combines the critical components required to deliver state-of-the-art digital picture quality in an all-in-one package that also offers excellent ease of use and installation. The package contains an optimized and aligned 1365 x 1024 D-ILA projector, a Faroudja-customized anamorphic lens for dynamic projection, a custom “Hush Box” for soundproofing, and either a Digital Cinema Source (NRS-DCS) Processor or a Native Rate Series (NRS) Processor.
Faroudja selected the D-ILA projector for this package because of its high 1365x 1024 resolution, and superior color and gray scale reproduction capabilities. Each projector is individually aligned and optimized for use with either the NRS-DCS or NRS Processor by William Phelps, a video guru known throughout the high-end home theater community for his proprietary software and set-up techniques. These include adjustments for gamma, gain, bias, black level, shading, and pixel shift to deliver extraordinary contrast ratio, black level, color reproduction and accurate image sizing. The firmware design is also modified to simplify operation with the Faroudja processor.
The custom anamorphic lens supplied in the package takes full advantage of the high resolution and high light output of the D-ILA light engine while preserving the original widescreen format on wide-angle screens. The anamorphic lens optically “squeezes” all information from the 4:3 D-ILA imaging chip onto the wide-angle screen, resulting in a brighter, sharper image. The scaler inside the NRS-DCS or NRS Processor can digitally map any non-anamorphic software to display the proper aspect ratio at all times.
Digital projectors with high light output require extensive heat management to control temperature build up, leading to excessive fan noise, which can be a problem for high-end theaters. Faroudja has designed a “Hush Box” to house the projector, dramatically reducing ambient noise and improving heat management, allowing the projector to run remarkably cooler.
The Digital Projector Package includes either an NRS-DCS Processor or a Native Rate Series Processor. NRS-DCS Processors include an internal high-performance DVD transport, making it possible to send a clean digital video signal straight to the video processing stage. Both processors deliver stunning image quality with superb color, detail and clarity, and are ideal for all applications-especially Home Theaters, screening rooms and commercial installations—that require high-quality video performance.
The Faroudja Digital Projector Package is available now from Faroudja dealers at a suggested retail price of $41,000 with the NRS-DCS Processor, or $36,000 with the NRS Processor.
