Energy is offering three all new subwoofers as part of its Reference Connoisseur series. The RC-SUB 8, RC-SUB 10 and RC-SUB 12 all feature the same rosenut or cherry veneer finishes as the other speakers in the series, as well as a high-gloss piano black lacquer, to blend in both sonically and visually with any other Energy unit.
The subwoofers feature three-driver configuration with one active woofer and two passive radiators combined with high-powered amplifiers (1000, 1250 and 1500 watts for the RC Sub 8, 10 and 12 respectively).
When designing the subwoofers Energy’s engineers focus was on how to get the best performance from small enclosures. They found that using a v-shaped cone displaced 30 percent of the overall cabinet volume so they developed a flat panel driver that does not use a traditional cone in order to maximize the internal cabinet volume.
The company also claims their bottom mounted input design give the subwoofers an air of high-quality furniture. The location of the inputs and controls allows users to choose to face the active driver into their listening room or to spin the cabinet 180 degrees to face the active woofer rearwards creating a very clean, sleek set-up.
The RC-SUB 8 at $900 features 8-inch drivers, the RC-SUB 10 at $1,200 features 10-inch drivers and the RC-SUB 12 at $1,600 features 12-inch drivers.
