The concept is simple enough. The Wireless Surround F/X is a wireless rear soundbar meant to make up for those missing surround channels. Simply set it up behind the listening area and let it do its thing. It’s got four 2.5” full-range drivers and a 5.25” woofer powered by a multichannel DSP amplifier, and it can reproduce both 5.1 and 7.1 surround material.
A wireless transceiver is included with the Wireless Surround F/X and simply hooks into the surround outputs of your receiver. The audio signals are then sent wirelessly to the unit, and you’re ready to go. Placement isn’t an issue, according to Polk, as the Wireless Surround F/X can be optimized to floor, table, and shelf heights.
The Wireless Surround F/X isn’t a replacement for a full surround system, but it might be a good start for those without them. Polk says that the Wireless Surround F/X – capable of producing “Convincing Multichannel Sound” will run $399.95 when it launches in mid 2010.
