There isn't always enough space in a room to place speakers and in-wall installation is overkill for a room that's your secondary or tertiary viewing option. That doesn't mean you have to suffer with less than optimal audio though - soundbars are constantly improving and shrinking to minimize the visual impact. The new Mythos sound bars from Definitive offer a slick look and features that should help get that audio as good as it can be. Both the XTR-SSA5 and the SSA3 use XTDD technology in their 3.5 inch drivers, which Definitive says give them the sort of punch that's normally missing in shallow drivers.
Both are just over an inch and a half in depth to keep them in line with current televisions and a wall mount so you can pop them on the wall right under your television. The SSA5 separates itself from the SSA3 when it comes to drivers. It utilizes five pairs of drivers instead of the three of the lower priced model. All of those drivers use Spatial Array technology to widen the soundstage and create a five channel illusion. The SSA3 only uses the tech on the left and right channels. The XTR-SSA5 runs $999 while the SSA3 comes in at $799. Both soundbars are available now.
